loving LB

my cellphone crashed, erasing all photos, mp3 files and notes i had on it. like resetting my ipod, i saw it as a sign that i needed to let my pda phone breathe. as i was looking for bedan hymn and up song downloads, i found the UPLB centennial song. i never felt prouder to be a uplb student than i do now.

ISANG DAAN
Isang daang taong pagsisilbi sa bayan
Isang daang taon ng kagitingan
Ginising ang ating puso’t isipan
Mula sa pagkakatulog ng kamalayan
CHORUS
(Repeat CHORUS)
Magbago man ang panahon
(Repeat Chorus)
Song of the Day: Sailing (by Christopher Cross)
It's not far to Never Never Land
No reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you'll find the joy
Of innocence again

word of the week

burnout (n): exhaustion of one's physical or emotional strength

i never knew what it really meant. until now.

Song of the day: If God Will Send His Angels (by U2)
It's the stuff, it's the stuff of country songs
But I guess it was something to go on.
Hey, if God will send his angels
I sure could use them here right now

missing the sunshine

these are the places i will always remember, with the people whose memories i will keep close to my heart:
the nasc lecture hall where i met my first friends from block 16.
the umali house where i was welcomed into an organization that changed my life.
the humanities building that showed me true beauty through an old structure.
the fertility tree that disproved an old myth.
apartment 5, where the bizarre always took place from drinking by candlelight to running into doppelgangers.
the sociosoc tambayan, where ideas, opinions, laughter and cassava chips were shared.
Song of the Day: In My Life (The Beatles)

All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

In memory of Katherine Matienzo who was taken before her time.

To use Hemingway's words:

Best of all (s)he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
Leaves floating on the trout streams
And above the hills
The high blue windless skies
Now (s)he will be a part of them forever

WE'LL ALL MISS YOU KAETII. Smile on us from above.

bahala na si batman

"The night is darkest just before dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming."
-Harvey Dent (The Dark Knight)
I have to believe that the dawn is coming. But until then, I will have to endure the night hoping that inside me is a fighter like Batman, believing I have to go on even if I am not indestructible.

Song of the Day: Human (The Pretenders)

See I bleed and I bruise,
But what's it to you

I'm only human on the inside
And if looks could deceive,
Make it hard to believe
I'm only human on the inside

FYI: I have to warn those who haven't seen the film yet, it was the most disturbing 2 hours and 32 minutes of my life but it was well worth it.

family reunion 101

I have a new rule for moments of family rejoicing. I know my relatives mean well but I'm getting too tired of the question:

Thou shall not ask if I have a boyfriend...
unless you have someone to offer that I can't refuse.

Song of the Day: Good Intentions (by Toad the Wet Sprocket)
I'm not afraid things won't get better
But it feels like this has gone on forever
You have to cry with your own blue tears
Have to laugh with your own good cheer
