easing the blow...

alternative careers

pambie and i realized that we didn't want to be lawyers. we're just going through this dahil nanghihinayang nalang kami. this was while we were making our appellant's brief for prac court-- a rape case. so i thought of the alternatives to being a lawyer:

1. housewife- first of all, no prospective husband. second, i cannot stand doing nothing at home. it's okay for a couple of days but after that, i live for stress. call me weird but i do.

2. duo kami ni pambie-- sabi nga ni rene v., do not neglect your musical talent. but it gets boring after a while.

3. taga-gawa ng website ng may website-- after the concon website was finished, pambie said i have a new option if i decide to quit law, pwede na akong web designer. but i can't handle computers. i'm not a techie.

4. disney cartoonist-- i love drawing, sketching, whatever form of visual art you could think of... but i'm scared of doing it for a living because i might hate it eventually.

5. coffee shop/bookstore/gallery owner-- we actually planned this and are still planning. but we need the capital (calling all interested investors) and the only way to make money that i could think of is finish law school and practice law.

i have no choice. i opted for law school and i have to live by that decision even if it kills me.

estopped

estoppel in pais - according to dean albano... it's when you don't speak when you should have and you speak when you shouldn't.

estoppel by laches - again, according to dean albano, the failure to exercise a right after a number of years.

i've been estopped many many times before

twenty-five-year gap

twenty-five years between us
no, she's not my daughter. it's just that all babies look alike.
i'm her godmother. (cue opening music from The Godfather)

a teacher you will never love

atty caban: for the love of me, please top the bar.

but sir, we don't love you. you're not even teaching us anything... not even a little lesson in life.

lesson to learn: wag magdidiva at walang may gusto sa diva.

Re: Twinkerbellor-- Petition for Change of Name

Exchange of text messages late at night...

Pambie: Naka-mutuum ang electric fan ni zern sakin.
Nikki: Pamela, what is mutuum?
Pambie: Ma'am can I just recite on bellor and belly?
Nikki: Twinkerbellor and twinkerbelly. Yan ang itatawag ko kay tuning.
Pambie: Sya si twinkerbellor, ikaw si twinkerbelly. hehehe
Nikki: Di ba meron pa akong petition for change of name?
Pambie: Wahehe. Ipa-set mo na for hearing yung petition mo with TRO to refrain from using the name in public.

But a TRO lasts only for 20 days. I need to go to the Supreme Court to make it last until further orders.
Still, now we have a new name.

Problem is: I don't know my way to the Supreme Court.

something to look forward to

the torres family, according to tv patrol, suffered a tragedy last month. a fire raged their house and took the lives of their two children. i watched the news this evening, thinking that there can't be that much bad news on new year's day. there were the usual political pr stunts (i.e. officials celebrating the coming of 2008 in baguio, saying that they will go back to work tomorrow--whatever that means), reports on which movie's leading in the film fest, fire in explosives central (bocaue-- eh di natuto din kayo!), etc. but then, something made up for all of it.

this year, as a christmas present to the torres family, an anonymous donor actually gave them a house and lot (and it was a really nice home) plus educational plans for the children. it warms my heart on this cold new year's day to know that someone out there still cares for others and isn't doing it just for the publicity. whoever you may be, wherever you may be, God bless you.

sana marami pang kagaya mo.
