goodbye, 80's

in july, the king of pop passed away because of sudden heart failure and what could be a lethal dose of prescription drugs. michael jackson was 50 years old.

august started with the death of an icon of democracy and the reflection of what every filipino should be. 76-year old corazon aquino drew her last breath as her family and friends prayed by her bedside that she may find the peace she had worked so hard to achieve.

a week later came the news that the director of so many generation defining movies was laid to rest. john hughes, director of the brat pack movies, died of a heart attack at the age of 59 while walking in Manhattan to visit his family.

growing up in the 80's, i am thankful for the music, the moves, the belief that an ordinary girl like me could be pretty in pink, that saturday mornings in detention could be fun , that there are other things that are more important than a sweet 16th birthday and the gift of democracy.

it truly is the end of an era.

Song of the Day: If You Leave (by OMD)
We’ve always had time on our side
Now it’s fading fast
Every second, every moment
We’ve got to make it last
